Education
from Experience or Books
Learning
from experience and mistakes is the good way to force understanding
upon yourself. Habits are hard to break, especially when a traditional
martial artist faces an ever-changing world. You must face the apparent
dilemma of sacrificing some traditions and cultural behaviour for
the sake of science and technology, and the changing world.
As
an individual, you must understand the importance of both art and
sciences of life. Without creativity or imagination and scientific
investigation, Wing Chun cannot develop and evolve.
Recognising
a mistake or refinement in a technique, require the skills of discovery,
but the discoveries must substantiated by objective evaluations.
Hence, it will develop methods of re-education.
It
is much harder to undo an old habit than learning a new one. This
is one of the main contributing factors in the development of martial
arts. Remaining obstinate leads only to stagnation.
